This Lares trek to Machu Picchu offers the walker the interaction with the life of Andean farmers, dressed in traditional ponchos and distinctive colors of the area. You will have the opportunity to see the stone houses with thatch, magical mountain scenery with stunning landscapes, llamas and alpacas roaming free in the mountains as wild, without the busy tourist crowds.
You'll depart Cusco early in the morning and travel to the township of Calca (2,900 meters) in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Then you will cross the Sacred Valley and after 2 hours driving you'll get to Lares town, where you will visit the medicinal hot spring and relax until lunch. After this you will begin the trek (approximately 4 hrs. with 30 minutes) with direction to Huacawasi (first campsite) and spend the night.
Early morning you'll wake up this day and cross the first high pass of Ipsaycocha, (4,600 meters or 15,456 feet). You'll see spectacular views of Ipsaycocha lake, situated at 4,280 meters above sea level (14380 feet). You'll also see the surrounding valleys and the Andean farmers dressed in their traditional, brightly colored ponchos and head-wear, tending their crops and alpaca, llama herds. Then, you will stop for a well-deserved lunch, close to Ipsaycocha Lake, and then continue on to Patacancha to be welcomed by some children along the way who are back home from school. You will spend the night in Patacancha.
You'll have an early morning start today and get to viewpoint that will give you an amazing view of the valley. Take a small break, then continue for two hours to reach Pumamarka and enjoy the Inca terraces. You will finish the route in Ollantaytambo. Later on, you will take the train with direction to Aguas Calientes and spend the night there.
You will begin the day very early morning walking up to Machu Picchu citadel for about 1 hour 30 minutes. Then you will begin the guiding tour in Machu Picchu for about two hours. After that you will have free time to explore the amazing Inca city on your own. You could visit the Huayna Picchu mountain (optional), the Inti Punku and the Inca Bridge. Finally, you will end this day returning by train to Ollantaytambo and after that you will take the bus with direction to your Cusco hotel.
