When you arrive in Cusco, one member of Inkayni team will be waiting for you in the airport or bus terminal. About tours, we will pick you up from your hotel we previously booked for you.
Upon arrival at the Cusco airport (11,152 feet / 3,400 meters), you’ll be warmly greeted by a representative of Inkayni Peru Tours and transferred to your hotel in the city’s charming historic district. Take this day to rest, hydrate, and allow your body to acclimate to the high-altitude environment. Spend the morning relaxing, and in the evening, meet your guide and fellow adventurers at 5:00 p.m. for an expedition briefing.
The day begins with a visit to Moray (3,500 masl / 11,482 ft.), an awe-inspiring Inca site where circular terraces descend into the earth like amphitheaters. These unique formations were used by the Incas to experiment with microclimates, showcasing their advanced agricultural techniques. Next, we travel to the salt mines of Maras (3,400 masl / 11,152 ft.), a breathtaking expanse of thousands of salt pools carved into the mountainside. Here, local families continue centuries-old traditions, harvesting salt using techniques passed down through generations. Our final stop is Chinchero (3,762 masl / 12,343 ft.), where we explore Inca royal palaces and a colonial church adorned with vivid murals. At a traditional textile center, local artisans demonstrate the ancient Andean art of weaving, crafting intricate designs with natural dyes. After a day of cultural immersion, we return to Cusco by early evening, ready for the next adventure.
After breakfast, we will pick you up from your hotel and depart on a private van toward the Sacred Valley, passing through Chinchero, Urubamba, and Ollantaytambo. After a 2.5-hour scenic drive, we’ll reach Km 82 (Piscacucho), the official starting point of the Inca Trail. The adventure begins with an ascent to Wilka Rakay, offering breathtaking views of the Inca site of Patallacta and the Kusichaca Valley. As we continue along the trail, you'll be immersed in stunning Andean landscapes, with ancient Inca ruins and diverse flora surrounding us. By late afternoon, we will arrive at Wayllabamba (3,000 masl / 9,842 ft.), where we’ll set up camp for the night. Here, you can relax and enjoy the serenity of the mountains as our team prepares a nourishing dinner. Rest well—tomorrow, we tackle one of the most challenging yet rewarding sections of the trail.
The day begins early as we prepare for one of the most demanding yet rewarding sections of the Inca Trail, the ascent to Warmihuañusca Pass (4,215 masl / 13,829 ft.), famously known as "Dead Woman’s Pass." This challenging climb tests endurance but offers breathtaking views of towering peaks and deep valleys. We start by trekking through a lush Andean forest, rich in native flora, before transitioning into the inter-Andean cloud forest, home to ancient Unca trees. A short rest at Llulluchapampa (3,680 masl / 12,073 ft.), a scenic plateau with sweeping views, prepares us for the final push. Reaching the summit, a sense of triumph and the spectacular panorama make every step worthwhile. From here, we descend into the serene Pacaymayo Valley (3,600 masl / 11,811 ft.), where our campsite awaits. A warm meal and the peaceful embrace of the Andes provide the perfect end to this exhilarating day.
Today is a day of discovery, as the Inca Trail leads us through some of its most fascinating archaeological sites. The morning begins with a gradual ascent to Runkurakay (3,760 masl / 12,336 ft.), an ancient Inca tambo (resting place) offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks. From here, we continue climbing to Runkurakay Pass (3,950 masl / 12,959 ft.), the second-highest point of the trek. Descending from the pass, we explore Sayacmarca (3,580 masl / 11,745 ft.), a fortified site perched on a steep ridge, showcasing Inca engineering and strategic defense. After a lunch break at Chaquicocha (3,600 masl / 11,811 ft.), the trail winds through the Andean cloud forest, a lush ecosystem teeming with life. As we reach Phuyupatamarca Pass (3,670 masl / 12,040 ft.), we take in breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley and, if weather permits, Machu Picchu. Finally, we descend past terraces and temples to Wiñayhuayna (2,650 masl / 8,694 ft.), our final campsite, meaning "Forever Young."
The final stretch of the trail begins before dawn to ensure we arrive at Inti Punku (Sun Gate) (2,720 m / 8,924 ft) in time to witness the sunrise over Machu Picchu(2,430 m / 7,972 ft). As the first rays of light illuminate the ancient citadel , the view is simply unforgettable, a moment that perfectly encapsulates the magic of this journey. A short descent takes us to the classic viewpoint for a group photo. OPTIONAL (Extra cost for a new ticket for re-entry to Machu Picchu): followed by a guided tour of Machu Picchu, where your guide will reveal the history, architecture, and mysteries of this iconic site. If you’ve secured an additional ticket in advance, you’ll also have the opportunity to explore either Huayna Picchu (2,693 m / 8,835 ft) for a breathtaking perspective of the surroundings. After our visit, we descend to Aguas Calientes for lunch before boarding the train to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, a private van will be waiting to take you back to Cusco.

In the afternoon, or according to your flight schedule, a shuttle will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Lima, marking the end of your unforgettable journey through the Sacred Valley and the Inca Trail.
