Early morning departure for the province of Acomayo. The drive to our trail head through pretty countryside dotted with lakes and tiny farms will take approximately 2 hours. In the first leg of the trek we leave villages and heards of sheep behind, asending past enormous stone formations, with sweeping panoramic views. We will break for lunch near a pretty lake, then continue over beautiful rolling hills toward the ruins. With luck, we[ll be able to spot shy vicunas and vizcachas along the way. By early afternoon Wakra Pukara comes into view. The ruins are built on a steep stone tower high above the Apurimac Canyon, and can be seen from quite a distance. We arrive at camp at the base of the ruins mid-afternoon, and will spend the rest of the day touring Wakra Pukara and adjacent caves and pre/Inca ruins. Enjoy a freshly prepared dinner prepared by our cook using local ingredients, then settle into your comfy tent for the evening, sip a hot drink and enjoy the incredibly starry sky.
This morning youll have the option of relaxing in camp to watch the mist rise from the canyon floor or return to Wakara Pukara for further exploration and photography. The trek today includes a pleasant hour long hike along the Apurimac canyon, with incredible views at every turn. The hike ends with a descent to the nearest village, where we will enjoy lunch before heading back to Cusco. Late afternoon return to your Cusco hotel.
