Maras was an important area during the Viceroyalty and still today preserves its 16th century church and cobblestone streets. It is the point of connection between Moray and the Salineras, and a perfect place to get to know Andean rural life.

    Salt Mine of Maras

    Made up of more than 3,000 pools of salt, these pre-Inca salt pans are still active today. The inhabitants of Maras continue to extract salt in the traditional way, using the salt water emanating from a natural spring. The panoramic view of the white terraces descending the mountain is simply unique. A perfect place to take pictures and learn about one of the oldest activities in the Sacred Valley.
