Andonovic Palace - the most important information

Andonovic Palace is located in Nis, in the city center. The owner of the building was Andon Andonovic, a merchant from Nis who was one of the largest importers of clothing from Italy, France, Greece and England. You will recognize it by its decorations and deep relief, as well as its capitals.

History of the Andonovic Palace
It was built in the spirit of French neoclassicism between the two world wars. In the middle of the palace, there is Mercury, the god of trade holding a bag and a scepter as a sign of wealth and power, which was placed at the request of Andon Andonovic. The building was designed by Belgrade architect Milutin Borisavljevic. It is considered to be the most valuable architectural building in Nis, in that period.

Attractions and activities beside the Andonovic Palace?
Obrenoviceva Street in Nis is the most famous shopping street, built between the 15th and 17th centuries. It is also known as the Main Street or the Main Bazaar, as it was called after the liberation of Nis from the Ottomans. Over time, the appearance of the street itself has changed. In the 19th and 20th centuries, it showed the power and strength of merchants and craftsmen, as well as new, urban architecture. This street was full of sellers of books and souvenirs and street musicians, and even today it is not much different. Many still call it Victory Street, as it was called in 1994. The Andonovic Palace, which is located in it, is a building that you will immediately notice on the wrought iron balcony as well as the window frames. A business and shopping center was built below the street, where numerous facilities and a promenade are located.

The palace is located in the center of Nis, in Obrenoviceva Street, and you can reach it on foot, but also:
