Most of the monuments in Zajecar were created to remember and honor the heroes of our country who spent their entire lives fighting against the occupiers. In addition to that purpose, many monuments are dedicated to the famous lives of artists, poets, and actors.
- The Vesala Monument: The Vesala Monument is located on Kraljevica hill, near Zajecar. The occupiers placed them during World War II not to intimidate the already sufficiently frightened people. As a warning sign, lifeless bodies were hung in that place, and after the occupiers left, a new gallows was erected as a sign of respect and memory.
- Monument to the warriors of the Timok Division: This monument is located on the central square in Zajecar and is dedicated to the warriors who died during the Balkan wars and the First World War. It is known that the people of Timo made an immeasurable contribution to the liberation struggle, and this monument was erected in their honor in 1929.
- Monument to Zoran Radmilovic: The monument to Serbian actor Zoran Radmilovic was unveiled in 2008. In addition to the fact that this famous actor was born in Zajecar, the Zaječar National Theater and the street where he was born take his name.
- Monument to Hajduk Veljko Petrovic: This monument is dedicated to our famous hero from the First Serbian Uprising, who vigorously fought for the liberation of Serbia from the Turks. He was born in Lenovo, about 15 kilometers from Zajecar. Every year in Zajecar, National Day is celebrated chiefly here, where all fallen fighters are honored.
How to get to the Monument in Zajecar?
Monuments in Zaječar can be found in almost every part of the city, and some of them are also located in Kraljevica. It is possible to reach them by car.
- The Hanging Monument: This monument is located in Kraljevica. It will take about 10 minutes to drive from the center of Zajecar, and you need to follow route 169 over Sljivarsko Brdo.
- Monument to the Timok Division: The monument to the warriors of the Timocka Krajina is located in the central part of Zajecar, close to the Zajecar National Museum. If you are moving from the direction of Kraljevica Park-Forest, you need to follow road 169, while road 35 will lead you to this monument from the opposite side.
- Monument to Zoran Radmilovic: The monument to this famous actor is just a few steps away from the memorial to the soldiers of the Timok Division. It is necessary to follow Kumanovska Street, which will bring you directly in front of the monument.
- Monument to Hajduk Veljko Petrovic: The monument to Hajduk Veljko is located near Crni Timok, on Hajduk Veljkova Street. If you are coming from the center of Zajecar, it is best to go along Ivan Milutinovic Street, which will lead you to the monument.
