Lakes in Zajecar - Most important information

The lakes in Zajecar represent one of the most beautiful forms of nature on the land of Zajecar, but also in the whole of Eastern Serbia. Some were created artificially, while others were created by damming different streams. Today, they represent the genuine pearls of this part of Serbia, and Zajecar can boast several lakes on its territory.
 
The importance of the lakes in Zajecar:
Today, the lakes in Zajecar have a multipurpose role. In addition to serving as a form of recreation, many of them have also found their role in irrigation.
  • Grlisko lake: Grlisko lake is an artificial lake created in 1989 by damming the Grliska river. It serves to supply Zajecar with drinking water, and the use of boats is expressly prohibited there, as well as the development of tourism. In addition, it is used for irrigation and sediment retention.
  • Lake Rgot: Lake Rgot is located southeast of the village of Rgotina. It was created in 1978 and is the cleanest lake in Serbia. Although there is no organized beach on the shores, tourists can often be seen here during hot summer days. The shores of Lake Rgot are forested, and there are many species of fish inside the lake.
  • Sovinac lake: Sovinac lake is an artificial lake created by damming the Sovinac stream with a dam 14 meters high. It is rich in fish, and an example of this is the daily catches of carp, grass carp, babushka, perch, catfish, and pike.
How to get to Lakes in Zajecar?
All lakes in Zajecar are mainly located outside the city, surrounded by pure nature and peaceful forests. It is possible to reach them by car.
  • Grlisko lake: From the center of Zajecar, you will need about 20 minutes to drive to Grlisko lake. You should follow route 35, which takes you through the village of Grljan, and after that, you arrive in Grliste and the lake.
  • Rgot Lake: You will travel to Rgot Lake in about 20 minutes from the central part of Zaječar. You need to follow route 35, and then at the junction, follow route 25a, which will take you to the lake.
  • Sovinac lake: You will need 30 minutes to drive to this lake on the E771 road, and the nearest village to the lake is Salas, which will guide you to the lake itself.
