Hydropower plant Vucje - Most important information

The Vucje hydroelectric power plant is second the oldest in Serbia and was built in 1903. It is located above the town of Vucje near Leskovac, on the river Vucjanka. Since the power plant is slightly more than 15 km away from Leskovac, a transmission line was built to supply the city, the first in the Kingdom of Serbia.

The history of the Vucje Hydropower plant

Professor Djordje Stanojevic, the founder of electrification in Serbia and a friend of Nikola Tesla, is responsible for creating this hydroelectric power plant. He chose the Vucjanka canyon for the needs of the electrical factory.

In 2005, the Vucje Hydroelectric Power Plant was included in the world's technical heritage, which consists of approximately 60 other objects.
