Hisar - Most important information
The Hisar archaeological site is located between the Jablanica and Veternica rivers' valleys near Leskovac. Hill Hisar has been inhabited since prehistoric times until today, and it represents the slopes of Mount Goljak. A large number of architectural and other buildings were discovered in the area of ​​Hisar, which today have eternal importance when researching this climate.

History of Hisar
Thanks to the favorable strategic location and the gentle slopes of the Leskovac basin, this area has continuously been inhabited by people. The remains of the earliest settlement date back to the Middle and Younger Neolithic, and Hisar was occupied during all periods of the Metal Age.
  • The name of the hill originates from the period of the Ottoman Empire: Hisar originates from the period of Turkish rule and denotes a fortification in the defense system built of hard material. A smaller fortification was called a hisardzik, that is, a fortress.
  • The oldest center of ferrous metallurgy in Europe was discovered in Hisar: In addition to the remains of life from the Neolithic, Copper, Bronze, and Metal Ages, as well as the Roman, Byzantine, and Turkish periods, Hisar also discovered the oldest center of ferrous metallurgy in Europe. Iron ores, grinding mills, furnaces, blowers, pits, and many other objects were found here.
Significance of Hisar
In addition to being a viral and useful archeological site, Hisar is today a nature park and one of the favorite picnic spots of the people of Leskovac.
  • The Revolution Memorial Park is located on Hisar: The Revolution Memorial Park is a memorial park built in 1971, according to the idea of ​​the architect Bogdan Bogdanovic. It is dedicated to the fighters of the People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia and all victims of fascism in the Leskovac region who died during the Second World War.

  • By car: From the center of Leskovac, it will take you only 5 minutes by car to reach Hisar. You only need to follow Radanska Street; after that, you come to the hill on Zrtvama Fasizma Street.
  • On foot: If you decide to walk to Hisar hill, you will need about half an hour of easy walking. From Norvezanska street, you need to turn into the road along which you will go uphill to the hill.
