House of Bora Dimitrijevic Piksla - Most important information

Bora Dimitrijevic Piksla house was built in 1850 and represented an immovable cultural asset as a cultural monument. It is located in Leskovac, and today it is also known as the Gradska kuca. The permanent museum exhibition was opened in 2002, and the initiator was academician Petar Vlahovic.

History of the House of Bora Dimitrijevic Piksla
This famous house was built for the Dimitrijevic family, which consisted of the president of the court of the first instance Atanasije and his wife, Dara, who was a teacher.
  • This museum was named after their son, who the Gestapo shot in 1942: The museum was named after Bora Dimitrijevic Piksla, born in 1915. He enrolled in his studies in Belgrade and then formed the first amateur theater in Leskovac. He was an actor and theater manager, and later, he went to war, where he was killed at the fortress of Nis.
  • In 1978, the National Museum got the idea to turn the dilapidated house into a museum: A few years after the Second World War, the house remained abandoned and dilapidated. However, in 1978, the National Museum launched an initiative to restore the home, and thus its restoration began. Today, the house represents a typical representation of life in the Leskovac area from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
Significance of Bora Dimitrijevic Piksla's House
The house was built in an utterly Balkan style, representing a typical house of old Leskovac, of which very few today exist. Although there are no original exhibits and items used by the house owners in the museum today, all exhibits date from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Bora Dimitrijevic Piksla's house is located in the central part of the city, so it is easy to reach from any direction. It is located close from the National Museum in Leskovac.
  • By car: If you are coming from the direction of Devet Jugovica Park and Hisar hill, it is best to go along Zrtava Fasizma Street, which will take you to Radanska Street. After it, the street of Ucitelja Josifa will lead you to this museum. If you are coming from the direction of Kumalak, Puskinova street and then Mlinska street will take you to your destination.
