Not far from the village of Vrmdza, 15 km from Sokobanja, there is an unusual lake, a quiet tourist destination. Apart from the legend about the origin of Vrmdzansko Jezero, this place is known for the customs that are typical for the area of the mountain Rtanj. Origin of Vrmdzansko Jezero
This lake was formed in an unusual way, in a beautiful untouched forests area with rare herbs and clean air. It is considered to be of karst origin. It has been formed when, in 1892, heavy rain filled an 80 meters wide karst sinkhole. This original lake then began to flow away when the bottom of the sinkhole got unplugged, and the lake completely disappeared. After that, it was re-formed and filled with rainwater, and today its water level is maintained by underground and aboveground springs and rainfall.
