The Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity is located just a few meters from the cathedral, which is located in the narrow area of the city of Budva. It was once an important stronghold of the Orthodox Christian world in these areas, which it still is today. Year after year, this important church in Budva is increasingly visited by domestic and foreign tourists. The Church of the Holy Trinity captivates with its monumental appearance and the perfect balance between the red and white stone used for the facade itself.
History of the Church of the Holy Trinity
At the special request of the Orthodox residents of Budva, the construction of this church began as early as 1789, right after the Venetians left Budva. This important Christian stronghold was completed already in 1804.

The Church of the Holy Trinity consists of a belfry on a trestle with three bells and a cupola. The facade is decorated with an exceptional rosette above the western door. The interior is decorated with an iconostasis made by Greek icon painters in the 19th century. This iconostasis has great artistic and religious value. In front of the church is the grave of Stefan Mitrov Ljubisa, a famous writer and politician who was born in Budva.
How to get to the Church of the Holy Trinity?
You can reach the Church of the Holy Trinity:
- By car - If you are coming from the direction of the Tourist Information Center, turn off the Adriatic road into Vojvodjanska Street. Follow this street to the very end, then turn left into Ulica 22. Novembra, then the first right. You can go along Mediteranska street all the way to the very end where there is a Voli store and a parking lot, or you can take the first left, then the first right. Slovenska Obala Street takes you back to the parking lot itself. It takes about 8 minutes of easy driving.
- By foot - If you prefer to walk, a 20-minute easy walk awaits you. The distance is 1.6 km, and you can follow the previously described routes. All lead to the Church of the Holy Trinity.
Additional information
Be appropriately dressed when visiting the church. Entry is not permitted in tank tops, Bermuda shorts, slippers, shorts or short skirts.
