Holy Emperor Constantine and Empress Jelena Church - the most important information

The church of the Nis diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church is named after Constantine the Great and his mother, Empress Jelena. It is located in the park of Saint Sava within the municipality of Mediana. The architects of this building are Jelena and Jovan Mandic, its construction began in 1999. A bottle with a charter was placed next to the three foundation stones. A smaller chapel was built within the complex, in front of which the feast cake was cut in 2001 to celebrate patron saint day of the church and the Nis itself.

History of the Holy Emperor Constantine and Empress Jelena Church
In September 2002, the cross was consecrated and then erected on the newly built temple. In the crypt of the temple, the multimedia association "Emperor Constantine" organized an exhibition of oil on canvas works, watercolors, icons and sculptures that were inspired by Byzantine motifs. The money raised from the sale of works of art was invested in the further construction of the temple. The first phase of construction was completed 12 years after that, and then the white stone cladding began.

It was built in the Byzantine style, with two levels on 550 square meters. It has one dome, two bell towers, a gallery for the choir and a crypt with auxiliary rooms, a dining room, a winter church, a library, a baptistery. The central entrance to the temple is on its west side, while the entrance with a wheelchair ramp is on the north. The works on the temple are not completely finished yet. There are 2,200 meters of empty space left inside the temple for making the frescoes, the altar part has already been painted and the stained glass covers only one dome.
