History of Tvrdjava Sokograd
The medieval town of Sokograd was built at the end of the 13th and the beginning of the 14th century. However, it is impossible to determine exactly when Sokograd was created, although certain archaeological research claims that it was created in the time of the famous Emperor Justinian. Many believe that, at that time, Sokograd served as a defense against the incursion of Avars and Slavs into Serbian territories.
Due to its long and significant history, many legends have emerged that speak of the origin of the name of this former city.
