Kosutnjak - The most important information

This forest offers you a handful of options for a perfect vacation in nature and is one of Belgrade's most important green oases. We are talking about a place that has an exceptionally well-organized park and picnic area, which are spread over an impressive 330 hectares of land. The altitude of Kosutnjak is 250 meters, so this is one of the few places where you can feel fresh and clean air in the capital.

History of Kosutnjak
The name is believed to come from hinds, which inhabited this area before urbanization. Until the beginning of the 20th century, Košutnjak was used exclusively as a court hunting ground, and since 1903 it has been open to the public. It was remembered as the place of the murder of Prince Mihail Obrenović, which took place in May of 1868. Košutnjak is home to two significant complexes and a sports and recreation center. It is also home to the Republic Hydrometeorological Institute, the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education, and the Hajdučka Česma.

How to spend time on Kosutnjak?
In addition to being one of the favorite destinations to celebrate Labour Day, Košutnjka is also an ideal place for an excursion when you don't have time to go outside the city. Our recommendation is to set aside a whole day to enjoy Košutnjak, and you can fill it with some of these activities:
  • Activities of the Sports and Recreational Center: In the 5 halls of this center, you can try volleyball, basketball, athletics, martial arts. There are as many swimming pools available, including open swimming pools.
  • Horse riding: The Divađo Equestrian Club is preparing a riding school, intended for both children over 3 years old and adults. Every day of the week, except Mondays, you can book your 30-45 minute riding appointment and experience the nature of Kosutnjak from a different angle.
  • Visit restaurants in Košutnjak: Enjoy local specialties with a view of nature! Among the most popular restaurants in Kosutnjak are Filmski grad, Rubin, Topčider, Milošev Konak and Devetka. Do not miss the Aleksandar Ski Trail cafe, whose garden is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Belgrade.
How to get to Košutnjak?
Košutnjak belongs to the settlement of Žarkovo and is located in the municipality of Čukarica. You can reach Kosutnjak by your own vehicle, but also by numerous lines of public transport. Although it is not so close to the city center, Košutnjak is still well connected to the city, so you can reach it by:
  • By car - It will take you less than 20 minutes to drive from the city center. The easiest way to get to Košutnjak is by Kneza Višeslava street, which you can join on Banovo Brdo in the immediate vicinity of the Roda cinema or at the intersection near McDonald's on Vidikovac.
  • By bus - Lines 23, 53, E2, and 56N take you to the SC Košutnjak stop, Pionirski Park, where you can join the Košutnjak hiking trails on foot.
