White Palace - the most important information
The White Palace is located in Dedinje and is part of the palace complex with an area of one hundred and thirty-five hectares. The yard was designed by Aleksandar Djordjevic and the construction was completed in 1936. It was renovated after the Second World War and today it serves, among other things, for residential purposes.
About the White Palace
King Alexander I started the construction of the court from his own budget in 1936, but he did not live long enough to see the final result. The building was completed by Prince Paul, who was a great lover of art and accordingly equipped the yard with valuable works of art. After the Second World War, the court also served as a representative facility in which various ceremonies were held and hosted by foreign statesmen. The White Palace also played a significant role in the recent history of Serbia. During Slobodan Milosevic's presidency, various political activities were carried out in it, both domestically and internationally. Today, the White Palace is used by Prince Alexander II and his family, but it is owned by the state. Among the works of art that can be seen on the walls of this building are the works of Nicolas Poussin, Jan Brueghel, Paolo Veronese and many others. The large and small saloons in the courtyard are furnished with Louis XV-style furniture. There is also a library with a collection of 35,000 books.
