Duke Petar Bojovic Square - the most important information

Since 1993, this town square in Nova Varos has been named after the esteemed Duke Petar Bojovic. This hero, born in the village of Misevici, is immortalized by a statue that occupies the central part of the square by which it is recognizable. During 2019, the square was renovated, which gave it a new, more modern look, which will, without a doubt, please all new visitors. In the vicinity of the square there are numerous restaurants, the city market and the streets that lead you to the cultural facilities and attractions that Nova Varos offers.

History of the Duke Petar Bojovic Square
Before it got the name it still bears today, the square was named after Marshal Tito until April of 1993. Belgrade sculptor Miodrag Zivkovic made a bronze statue presenting Petar Bojovic with a sword in his left hand and in a proud standing position. This sculpture is a little less than 3 meters high and overlooks the mountain. It was officially opened on Vidovdan in 1997. This square hosts events that mark important holidays and is often used as a landmark for meetings. The area is decorated with planters with various flowers, benches for rest and a clean space for kids to play. Nova Varos remembers Duke Petar Bojovic, who especially stood out as a military leader in the Balkan Wars and the First World War. As a commander, he was at the head of the army of Serbia and Yugoslavia, and during his life he was decorated with numerous medals. He was buried in the Novo Groblje cemetery in Belgrade after his death in January 1945.

How to get to the Duke Petar Bojovic Square?
The square is surrounded by Nikola Tesla and Solunskih Boraca streets, which are reached by Karadjordjeva, Oslobodilaca and Sveti Sava streets. You can easily walk to it, the same routes can also be followed by car as there is a parking lot nearby. If you come from the periphery, taxi services are also available.
