The monument to the heroes of Kosovo - the most important information

The monument to the heroes of Kosovo is a cultural monument located in Krusevac, which was made by the sculptor Djordje Jovanovic in 1904 on the occasion of the centenary of the First Serbian Uprising. This monument is a symbol of Krusevac, and its cornerstone was laid by King Aleksandar Obrenovic in 1889.

Characteristics of the monument
The monument is six meters high and is in the shape of a pyramid. At the top is a composition of Bosko Jugovic and a fairy that is four meters high. Bosko Jugovic is wounded and with a broken sword, but he does not stop fighting with the flag in his hand. The fairy is a symbol of the continuation of the fight and puts a laurel wreath on his head.
  • North side of the monument - a figure of a guslar representing the centuries-old struggle of the Serbian people for national freedom; the coat of arms of the state of Nemanjić; and the number 1389, which represents the year of the Battle of Kosovo.
  • South side of the monument - a figure of a girl who is the personification of Serbia; coat of arms of the Kingdom of Serbia and the year of its proclamation - 1882.
  • East side of the monument - relief of the communion of the knez's army; coat of arms of knez Lazarus; and the dedication of "Serbia to Kosovo's heroes".
  • West side of the monument - relief of the scene of the assassination of Turkish Emperor Murat; coat of arms of Tsar Dusan; and the number 1904, which represents the year the monument was unveiled.
Interesting fact
Sculptor Djordje Jovanovic was awarded the Gold Medal of the First Order at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900 for the sculptural elements of this monument.

The monument to the heroes of Kosovo is located in the very center of Krusevac, so it can be reached on foot. Of course, if you come from another part of the city, you can always use:
