Archaeological Park "Lazarev grad" - the most important information

The archeological park "Lazarev grad" or "Lazarus' city" represents the remains of the medieval capital of knez Lazar, which was once located in Krusevac. It is a cultural monument of exceptional importance. From 1961 to 1971, archeological excavations of the complex were carried out in order to find out about the appearance of medieval Krusevac.

History of Lazarus' city
Knez Lazar built his capital in 1371, and it was first mentioned as a city in 1387 in a charter. The city was briefly under Turkish rule after the Battle of Kosovo, and Lazar's son Stefan moved the capital to Belgrade in 1405. The city was also under the Hungarians from 1437 to 1444. However, in 1454, it was completely conquered by the Turks and they called it the Colorful City because of the different materials from which it was built.

The appearance of Lazarus' city
The complex is believed to have been built in two phases. The "small town" which consists of the main tower, ramp, trench and one small tower and palace and its accompanying buildings were built at the same time, and before the fort of the "big town" and the church of Lazarica.
