The Monastery of the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God (Djunis Monastery) is an Orthodox nunnery that belongs to the Diocese of Nis of the Serbian Orthodox Church. It is located on the territory of the town of Krusevac in the village of Djunis, and bears the same name as the village.
History of the monastery of Djunis
The original church was built in 1934 on the site where, according to the legend, in 1898, the Mother of God appeared to a thirteen-year-old girl at a spring of water and told her that the sick would be healed there, and that a church should be built there. In 1960, that church received the status of a monastery by the decision of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and in 2001, after a little more than twenty years of building a larger space, the monastery was consecrated.
