Museum of Applied Arts - the most important information

The Museum of Applied Arts in Belgrade is an art museum of a specialized type. Works of national applied art can be seen in it, but also works from other European and non-European countries. The Museum also has a library and a museum shop.

History of the Museum of Applied Arts
The museum was founded on November 6, 1950, and already during the first year of its existence, it bought the collection of painters and graphic artists Ljubo Ivanovic. This extremely valuable collection contained more than 3,000 different artistically processed objects in which goldsmith's products, objects carved in wood, old manuscripts and printed books, etc. stood out for their historical and artistic value.

The building in which the Museum is located from the beginning is a building that was built from 1927 to 1929 according to the project of Stefan Belic. The facade was done by Nikola Krasnov, and the interior decoration by Neregar. The building also housed the Spanish Embassy, ​​law firms and prestigious fashion salons.

Exhibition of the Museum of Applied Arts
The Museum has the following collections:
  • Metal and jewelry;
  • Furniture;
  • Textiles and costumes;
  • Photography, applied graphics and art equipment of the book;
  • Ceramics, glass and porcelain;
  • Contemporary applied art and design;
  • Architecture, urbanism and architectural design.
In addition to these collections, various exhibitions are held in the Museum every year, and artists can be invited to present their works in the Salon of Contemporary Applied Art or they can finance the exhibition in the museum gallery "Jade".

Opening hours and ticket price
  • The museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm.
  • The library is open to readers on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The ticket price is 200 dinars, and for pensioners and groups of seven or more visitors it is 100 dinars. Admission is free for children under 12. On the last Saturday of the month, admission is free for all.
How to get to the Museum of Applied Arts?
  • The museum is located next to Vojvode Vuka Park and you can reach it on foot from Kneza Mihaila Street if you follow Vuka Karadzica Street. In that case, the Museum will be on your right.
