Rosomaca River Canyon - Basic Information
This geomorphological phenomenon of distinct beauty is located between the villages of Rosomaca and Slavinja, at the foot of the Stara Planina mountain. It is also known as Wolverine Pots and Slavinjsko Grlo. Although you may come across conflicting signposts made and rebuilt by the inhabitants of these two villages trying to appropriate the aforementioned natural wealth, once you head to the canyon, you can’t go wrong.
Characteristics of the Rosomaca River Canyon
In addition to the dispute over who the canyon and river belong to, there are other indications that this is a truly special natural site. The canyon is a very characteristic part of the river valley of the Rosomaca river, because it is averaged through layered limestone rocks from the Jurassic period. It contains a large number of extensions with vortices, the so-called pots, after which the site was named. If you find yourself in this place during the period when the water level is low, you can also enter the river and pass through the center of the canyon, which is only a few meters wide.
Rosomaca River
The river that flows through this canyon is one of the tributaries of Visocica. A large number of barriers create waterfalls and small waterfalls, which make the whole river even more imposing. The water that flows here is cold, about 5 degrees, so entering the water is reserved only for the bravest.
How to get to the canyon of the river Rosomaca?
The canyon itself can only be reached on foot. Since access is possible from the village of Slavinje, you can always reach it by car.
