Topciderski park - basic information

Topcider Park is, we can freely say, one of the most beautiful parks in Belgrade. Although it is located at the intersection of two busy boulevards, it is still quite isolated from noise, but also from the city noise. Because it is not located in the center of any of the urban settlements, it often has a small number of people, but it is also worth visiting, together with the localities that are in its vicinity. And there are them.

History of Topcider Park
Topcider Park was separated and fenced in 1831 by order of Prince Milos Obrenovic, with the aim of building a palace complex on that place. That is when the first park was created in Belgrade - Topcider Park. The prince had a clear vision of how he wanted the space around the court to be built, to be full of greenery, rare plants and fountains. A lot of effort has been invested in arranging the entire space together with the boarding house according to European standards. Already in the middle of the 19th century, visitors could see the results of their work. In the park there were numerous fountains and fountains, walking paths, but over time, important cultural and historical monuments were erected. It hosted cultural events of that time and people had the opportunity to visit it constantly. Unfortunately, during the 20th century, during the expansion of Belgrade, Topciderski Park was partially shortened, but later work was done to really preserve and not break it. In 2015, this park was declared a cultural monument.

Characteristics and appearance of Topcider Park
The park spreads over about 13 hectares, in the valley of the Topciderska river.
The park as we know it today consists of 4 parts. The first part stretches between the Boulevard of Patriarch Pavle and Topčiderska Street, and it houses the residence of Prince Miloš, the famous maple tree, the monument to the Reaper, the Obelisk and the memorial bust of Archibald Rice, along with various types of trees, flowers and shrubs. Special specimens of plant species are marked with nameplates and detailed descriptions. The plane tree in front of the konak is known for its age, which is over 150 years and its size, as this tree is one of the largest in the Balkans.
In the second part there is a greenhouse, fountains Mali and Veliki vodoskok, as well as Miloš's fountain. The proximity of the Topčiderska river provided this park with enough water to build these types of attractions. And in this part of the park there are plane trees, ginkgo tree, willows, etc.

The third part, which covers the area from Topčiderska Street to the part of Vojvode Mišića Boulevard, offers visitors the opportunity to visit the pond with a bridge, which is one of the main places for photography for many couples, tourists and passers-by.
The fourth part of the park, on the right side of the Topčiderska river, is an integral part of the Topčiderska forest and there are two water mirrors behind the restaurant Milošev konak. This part of the park, like all the others, is rich in trees and flora.
Within the park, there is also the Forest Park, a part that is located within the forest that was planted after the Second World War, during the action of afforestation of the whole of Belgrade.
