History of the Kalenic Monastery
The Kalenić Monastery represents the endowment of the protovestiary Bogdan, who was a distinguished nobleman of the despot Stefan Lazarević. The monastery church was built and painted in the 15th century (between 1407 and 1413). This monastery was deserted at the end of the 17th century, and the monks from Morača restored it in the middle of the 18th century. The professional renovation of the Kalenić Monastery was carried out between 1928 and 1930.

The frescoes that you can see in this monastery are among the best preserved paintings of the 15th century. The basis of the Kalenić monastery is a triconch with 1 dome. This Serbian monastery is said to be the most luxurious Moravian-style monastery. It is characterized by rich architectural stone sculpture and alternating arrangement of stone and brick. The frescoes represent the usual motifs of great holidays, the earthly life of Christ and his miracles.

- Kalenić Monastery is about 180 km away from Belgrade, so you will travel to it by car for 2 and a half hours (via A1 / E75).
