Zamak Belimarkovic - the most important information

One of the most representative buildings of Vrnjacka Banja is the Zamak Belimarkovic, with its dual function and great cultural value. This castle was built in the period between 1882 and 1887. First, it served as a summer house of Jovan Belimarkovic who performed deputy duty while King Aleksandar Obrenovic was underage.

History of the castle
The castle was set on a foundation above a hot spring and designed to look like northern Italy castles. In charge of the project were prominent people, engineers Pavle Denic and Franz Winter. Besides the church, it is the oldest cultural facility of the Vrnjacka Banja, so it has long adorned this area with its elegance.

For one part of its existence, the castle was the residence of Jovan Belimirovic's heirs. Ordinary visitors could not witness the splendor of its premises until the 1970s.

Significance of the castle
In 1968, the castle was bought and declared a cultural asset of great importance for the Republic of Serbia. From that moment, it got the name Zamak kulture (Castle of Culture), and the "Kulturni Centar" of Vrnjacka Banja began to manage it.

After some restoration works, the castle became the cradle of the Zavicajni muzej (Homeland Museum) of the territory of Vrnjačka Banja. Since then, it has collected extensive archaeological, historical, ethnological, artistic, and natural history collections.
