Orlovaca Cave - Most important information

The Orlovaca Cave is one of the most beautiful caves in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located at a distance of 15 kilometers from Sarajevo and near the town of Sumbolovac. The cave has yet to be fully explored, and fragments as old as 3,500 years have been found.

The importance of the Orlovaca cave
The Orlovaca Cave is today a top-rated tourist attraction, and this is due to the exceptional appearance of the cave and the numerous details of the cave jewelry. Among them, stalagmites, stalactites, cave pillars, draperies, various salivates, aragonite, coral jewelry, and biguine tubs stand out.
  • Bones of a 16,000-year-old cave bear were found in the cave: During work on the footpath through the cave, parts of the cave bear's body were found, i.e., rib bones and limb bones. Those bones were broken, which testifies to the bear's movement through the corridors. In addition, several bear skulls were found, indicating that more than eight individuals lived here.
  • The permanent residents of the cave are bats: About ten individuals of bats were seen on the site itself, and many researchers came to this very cave to investigate their origin and observe the behavior of these animals.
  • An ax and ceramic fragments were also found in the cave area: These objects are considered 2,500 to 3,500 years old and are believed to have been used by prehistoric people. Many exhibits from the museum were stolen since the shows in question are among the largest in the world in terms of preservation and size.
