Museum of Herzegovina - the most important information

The Museum of Herzegovina is the name of the Mostar cultural institution, which was established in 1950. The goals of founding the Mostar Museum were: finding, collecting, preserving and presenting the cultural and historical heritage of both Mostar and the whole of Herzegovina. Stay with us and find out below what you can see in this famous place.

Characteristics of the Museum
The management of the Mostar Museum is located in the memorial house "Džemal Bijedić". If you haven't heard of this name, it's the former Yugoslav prime minister, who lived in the last century and was called the father of the Muslim nation. Here you can find out everything you need to know about the history of Mostar and its great people, who live after death. The Museum of Herzegovina consists of 4 departments, which are:
  • Džemal Bijedić Memorial House,
  • Memorial House of Svetozara Ćorović (famous Serbian writer, member of the so-called Mostar Troika, along with Jovan Dučić and Aleksa Šantić),
  • Tara Tower ("Old Bridge Museum") as well
  • Interpretation Center Mostar.
Many interesting archeological, ethnographic, manuscript, numismatic and other exhibits are waiting for you in the Museum of Herzegovina, which will forever remind you of Mostar and unforgettable moments in it.

Clock tower
It would be a real pity if you visited the Mostar Museum, and did not dedicate at least a little of your time to the Clock Tower, which is located next to the museum. It is a square tower, built in 1630, whose height is as much as 15 meters. According to oral traditions and folk poetry, the magnificent Clock Tower was built under the patronage of the influential Fatima Šarić:
"Saric Kaduna swore
That's how I am
And the Turkish fast of Ramadan
I will make a clock in Mostar
To be heard all over Mostar ".

This tower still stands proudly today and testifies to some past times and events that marked the history of Mostar. It is worth paying a little attention to her and finding out everything she has been hiding for centuries!
