History of the Croatian National Theatre
The Croatian National Theater is a theater institution in Zagreb, founded in November 1860. Its operation was legally established in 1861 when the Parliament of the Triune Kingdom of Croatia, Dalmatia, and Slavonia accepted it as national property under its protection. However, the Croatian National Theater is at least 20 years older. Namely, around 1840, actors from Novi Sad performed a play called Juran and Sofia at the invitation of the Illyrian Reading Room. Later, the folk theater began to grow and develop more and more, and over time it experienced its heyday.

How to get to the Croatian National Theatre?
The Croatian National Theater is on Trg Republike Hrvatske, close to Ban Jelačić Square. It is located in the center of the city and can be reached using transport and easy walking from any part of the city.
  • On foot: The theater can be reached on foot from any direction. From the Gornji grad district, it takes about ten minutes of easy walking through Gundulićeva Street and across Cvetni Trg.
  • By bus: The Trg Republike Hrvatske bus stop is near the theater, and lines 32 and 34 run there.
  • By tram: Lines 1, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17.
