History of the Temple of Augustus
The Temple of Augustus was built between the 2nd century BC and the 14th century AD, the period when Augustus died. The temple's function has often changed throughout history, receiving different uses. At the end of pagan antiquity, the temple's position was abolished and used as a church. Then, the temple served as a grain warehouse, and at the beginning of the 19th century, a museum of stone monuments was housed in it. After some time, the museum was bombed and destroyed, and today there is a smaller exhibition of ancient monuments.
