Monastery of St. George - the most important information
The monastery with the church of St. George is located on the left bank of the river Temštica, in the area of the village of Temska. This Orthodox monastery is about 20 kilometers away from Pirot. It is an endowment of the Dejanović family from the 14th century. The main part of the church was built before 1576, while the walls were covered with frescoes in that year. The monumental residence from the 18th century represents a special architectural value of this monastery, since such a monastery does not exist in any Serbian monastery and is characterized by an authentic style of building the climate of southeastern Serbia. Appearance and characteristics of the monastery
The monastery church represents a concise inscribed cross, with an octagonal dome, which is carried by arches. The Church of St. George was built in the Moravian style, and its interior was painted on 2 occasions. The first fresco was painted in 1576, while the second fresco was created almost 80 years later, in 1654, when a simple rectangular narthex was added and painted. It highlights the life of St. George in frescoes. During the archeological research in the seventies of the 20th century, the conservation of the frescoes and architecture of the temple was done.
How to get to the monastery?
Belgrade is about 300 km away from the monastery of St. George, so you will travel to it by car for 3 hours and 15 minutes (by highway A1 / E75).

Captain Milutin Karanović, who gave his life in the Serbian-Turkish war during the liberation of Pirot, was buried in the yard of the monastery of St. George. This monastery is also known for making balms for the treatment of psoriasis, against hair loss, varicose veins and other similar diseases.
