Lumphini park is a 57.6 hectare park in Bangkok with open public space, trees, playgrounds, and an artificial lake. The park is connected to Benjakitti Park by a 1.3 km elevated walkway and bicycle lane.

About Lumphini park
The plot of land where the park lies was once a private property of King Rama VI, called Thung Sala Daeng, which he donated to the nation. That’s how it became the first public park in Bangkok. The park was founded in the 1920s and it got its name after the birthplace of the Buddha in Nepal. During World War II it was a Japanese Army camp. It was also the place where the first public library in the country was opened. Lumphini park has a variety of plants, a public aquarium, playgrounds, sporting grounds, and it is a great place for a jog. It is also home to a number of permanent facilities and seasonal activities.

What to see at Lumphini park?
There are six gates through which you can enter the park. Lumphini park is mainly for relaxing or jogging and cycling, but here are some of the things you will be able to see at the park:
  • King Rama VI statue - this statue was built in 1942 to commemorate the construction of the park. It is a statue of King Vajiravudh (Rama VI).
  • Lumphini Lake - you can rent out a swan paddle boat at a lake and go exploring. In the middle of the lake there used to be a floating restaurant Kinnari Nava in the 1960s, but it was closed due to a fire.
  • Clock Tower - this Chinese-style clock tower was built in 1925 to commemorate the Trade Fair that was held that year.
