Square of five wells - Most important information
Five Wells Square is located in Zadar, between the Captain's Tower and the City Wall. It represents one of the essential attractions in the entire city, so it is rightly believed that anyone who has yet to take a photo at the Square of five wells has yet to visit Zadar. The Captain's Tower, which is located next to it, rises as much as 26 meters in height, while on the other side, it is protected by the City Park.
History of Five Wells Square
The Square of Five Wells in Zadar was built as early as 1574 during the constant sieges of the Ottoman Empire and its army. Then the defensive ditch on the western side of the bastion, which was previously dug in the Middle Ages, was covered. A large cistern for drinking water with five decorative wreaths was created. In addition, parts of the aqueduct through which water was brought from Lake Vrana have been preserved.
Significance of Five Wells Square
This Square has excellent tourist potential today since it is the central gathering place for all locals and tourists. This landmark gathers tourists from all over Europe, and while drinking coffee and having a delicious lunch, you can watch the sunset on the Square.
How to get to Five Wells Square?
Trg pet bunara is located in the central part of Zadar, and it can be reached on foot or by means of transport. There are two larger parking lots called Zadar parking and Ravnice parking in the vicinity of Trg pet bunara. They are only a few meters away from the Square.
- On foot: From the direction of St. Donat's Church, it is best to follow Mihovila Pavlinovića Street. If you are coming from the opposite direction, the street of Kralja Dmitra Zvonimir will lead you to the location itself.
- By car: If you are coming from the direction of Sea Organ and Salutation to the Sun, it would be best to follow Mihovila Pavlinovića Street and then Ante Kuzmanića Street. From the opposite part of the city, Obala Kralja Tomislava Street and then Trg Pet Bunara Street will lead you to Pet Bunara Square.
