Memorial House of Mother Teresa  - The most important information

For a long time, there has been a desire to honor the widely known humanitarian Mother Teresa properly. As a result, on May 9, 2008, the foundation stone of the memorial house was laid. The building was completed in just nine months. The memorial house was opened for visitors on January 30, 2009. The place where the Sacred Heart of Jesus church used to be was chosen for the location. It was in that church that Mother Teresa, then Gonja Boyadziju, was baptized just one day after her birth.

The interior of the exhibition space shows the ambiance of a Macedonian town hall at the beginning of the 20th century. The exhibition includes photographs, documents, and exhibits through which you can follow the life path of Mother Teresa, from her childhood in Skopje, through her humanitarian work, until her death, beatification, and canonization. The most important objects of this museum are the white series with blue stripes (a relic of the second order), the official habit of the charitable missionaries, a copy of the baptismal certificate from the Catholic Church of the Heart of Jesus, and authorized copies of the documents with it. Among the exhibited documents are a prayer book written by Mother Teresa, a copy of the Nobel Peace Prize received in 1979, and a copy of a letter addressed to the mayor of Skopje, Metodije Antov. There is also a bust of Mother Teresa in front of the building.

The museum is a multipurpose building composed of gallery - exhibition space, chapel - spiritual space, amphitheater - multimedia space.
  • Gallery: The Memorial House had numerous exhibitions in Macedonia and the world, Mother Teresa, Saint from Skopje, Saint to the World, which was first opened in Rome on the occasion of Mother Teresa's canonization, then in Poland (Katowice, Kielce, Poznań) and Japan (Tokyo).
  • The amphitheater - is designed as a multimedia space where screenings, promotions, educational workshops, and exhibitions related to the life and work of Mother Teresa and humanitarian work are held.
  • Chapel - is the place where priests of the Catholic Church celebrate mass today. On the occasion of the canonization of Mother Teresa, this chapel was declared a shrine, and during the solemn assemblies, dates from the life of Mother Teresa were exhibited.
Opening hours and ticket prices
  • Working hours are Monday-Friday 9-20h, while on weekends the working hours are 9-14h;
  • The entrance is free.
How to get to the memorial house of Mother Teresa?
The Memorial House of Mother Teresa is located in central Skopje and is very easy to reach.
  • On foot: When you are in the center of Skopje, more precisely at Ploštada, head towards Guro Strugar Street, from which you turn into Maksim Gorki Street, which leads you to the memorial house. The distance from Ploštad is about 700 meters, and it takes 5 minutes to reach it.
