The Church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God is located in the Old Smederevo Cemetery, in Narodnog Fronta Street. This church was built in the first half of the 15th century and is believed to have been the tomb chapel of Metropolitan Atanasije of Smederevo.

Church history
The Church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God was built on the site of the former necropolis. This was shown by archeological excavations carried out in 1982. Since there is no information that indicates the founder and the time of construction of this church, the dating was done based on the stylistic features of the architecture.

Appearance and characteristics of the church
The Church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God belongs to the Moravian style group of single-domed churches. The facades are treated in the alternation of brick and stone, while the masonry technique differs by zones, which indicates the assumption that they belong to different periods of construction. The frescoes were made in the all secco technique, most likely at the end of the 16th century. The dome of this medieval building depicts Christ Pantocrator, the Heavenly Liturgy and the Old Testament prophets.
