Monument to Stanisa Stosic - basic information
Vranje abounds in cultural monuments dating back to the time of the Ottoman Empire, but among them is a monument that represents recent history. It is a monument to the singer of original folk music, Staniša Stošić, who always tied his music to the Vranje region.
About Stanisa Stosic
Although he is not a native of Vranje, but from Vladicin Han, he based his songs on the melody of southern Serbia, especially Vranje. He was born in 1945, and he got acquainted with the traditional music of this area at the Teachers' School in Vranje, where he played the violin. He was remembered for songs such as "Because of you, my beauty", "Beautiful Vranjanka", "Do you know, my girl".
After his death, in 2008, he was buried in Belgrade, in the Alley of Deserving Citizens, and Vranje found a way to repay him for the indelible trace in the music he left.
Where is the monument
The monument was unveiled in 2012 in front of the National Museum in Vranje, on the square that bears his name. The monument is the work of the academic sculptor Zoran Ivanovic.
How to get to the monument
The monument, within the National Museum, is located in the city center, 300 meters from the City Park and the main city street.
- You can reach it on foot in 3 minutes, if you start from Partizanska Street, turn into Makedonska Street and then into Pionirska Street.
- You can get from the main bus station after a 30-minute walk, passing Djura Salaja, Filipa Filipovica Street, Partizanski put and 29 November Street.
