The Arms Square-Most important information

It is the largest and main square of Kotor and one of the favorite tourist attractions. There are cafes and restaurants on it, as well as historical and cultural objects. During the Venetian rule, it got its name, because weapons used to be made in this place, primarily in the Arsenal building.

History of the Arms Square
Soldiers who defended and guarded the city gathered in this square and equipped themselves with weapons. The most famous defense of the city lasted for 3 days when the Turkish pirate Hajrudin Barbarossa attacked Kotor in 1539.

What to see on the Arms Square?
It is always full of tourists and locals whose visit to Kotor would be incomplete without visiting its important attractions.
  • Sea Gate - is the main entrance to the Old Town of Kotor. The gate was built in the 16th century and is the largest of the three city gates.
  • Clock tower - it was built in the 17th century. It was built partly in the Baroque style, while the northern and eastern facades were built in the Gothic style. In front of the tower is a reconstructed medieval pillar.
  • Rector's palace- it was built in the 17th century. It is located on the west side of the square.
How to get to the Arms Square ?
  • By car or on foot: Turn off the main road E65 and there is a square near the cafe Forca. Near the square you can also find free parking for motorcyclists.
