The Kaona Monastery was of great importance in the First Serbian Uprising - the monks of this monastery took part in the fighting, and the monastery residence was turned into a hospital. The current monastery church is dedicated to the Holy Archangel Michael. It was built in the Byzantine style, on the foundations of the old church in 1892. It was built of brick on a stone foundation, in which all the monuments from the monastic cemetery, which was located in the monastery gate, were built. The monastery bell tower is about 20 meters away from the current church. Until 1911, the bells were located above the west door, in the dome of the church.
