Kraljevo theatre - the most important information

Today's theater in Kraljevo was founded in 2001 after a theatrical tradition that has its roots in 1949. The theater is located in the very center of the city and it offers its visitors a diverse repertoire that has achieved significant success at festivals and events over the years.

History of the Kraljevo theatre
From 1949 to 1956, the institution "National Theater Kraljevo" was active and the first season was opened by the drama "Uncle Vanja" directed by Zorica Cemovic-Protic. The theater was left without the financial support of the city in 1956, after the decision of the Ministry of Education. In order for theatrical art not to go out, amateur theater was founded with the name “14. oktobar Kraljevo” which in 1996 regained its professional status. Since 2001, the Kraljevo Theater has become the most active.

The building that houses the theater was built during the 19th century. After Kraljevo was hit by a devastating earthquake in 2010 and left significant damage to the building, it was used only for rehearsals. Due to various accidents that occurred during the renovation process of the building, the theater ensemble was a guest on the stages of other theaters or performed chamber performances. The financial assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia helped the renovation, which reduced the capacity of the hall and the new life of the theater began at the end of 2017.
