Have you heard of Villa Stankovic? This popular villa is located in the village of Chortanovci, on Fruška gora. Numerous famous people from serbian history and past are connected to her, like Josip Broz Tito, who lived in this place for a while.
History and origin of the villa
Villa Stanković was built in 1930 by Radenko Stanković, the founder of the Medical Faculty in Serbia, while the designs were made by the famous architect Dragiša Brašovan. While studying in Vienna, Dr. Stanković came up with the idea to build a villa in this place, where hospitals for lung patients are usually built.
Appearance and characteristics
Villa Stankovic is made in the style of Serbian medieval castles. It is located in the forest of Čortanovac, on a property that includes 35 acres distributed on 6 levels - a terrace. After the arrest of Dr. Stanković due to cooperation with the Germans, the new owner of the villa became the Ministry of the Interior of Serbia. Later, Villa Stanković was remodeled to the taste of Josip Broz Tito, and on that occasion, its previous interior was destroyed. After many years, the villa becomes a place where numerous political decisions are made. By order of the politician Boško Perošević, bungalows, tennis courts and a swimming pool were built, and then the villa got a completely different look.

How to get to Villa Stankovic?
You can reach Villa Stanković very easily. There are 3 routes if you are moving from Belgrade:
- via the A1 / E75 motorway (fastest way)
- via A1 / E75 and Route 100 or
- via Route 100.
If you are starting from Novi Sad, you will need a 40-minute drive to Villa Stanković (via Route 100).

Today, Villa Stanković is used by provincial officials for protocol receptions and meetings. The film of Soja Jovanović Father by force was shot in it. However, this villa is best known for hosting the New Fortress Theater and Shakespeare Fest festivals.
