Miloša Velikog, Gornji Milanovac

Milanovac Theater - Basic Information

In the very center of Gornji Milanovac, right behind the Church of the Holy, there is the famous Milanovac Theater. The birth of theatrical life in this city is due to young and ambitious high school students who gathered and formed troupes that performed plays. Among them was Momcilo Nastasijevic, a writer from Milan and Serbia.

History of the Milan Theater
It was Momcilo Nastasijevic who presented theatrical life to the people of Milan with his plays, such as  „Nedozvani”,  „Gospodar Mladenova kći”, „Kod večite slavine”. The inhabitants of this city learned about the theater as a concept around 1910, when it existed without a repertoire and name. After the Second World War, that changed, and from that period onwards it became known as Kosta Abrasevic, then the Amateur Theater "Nikola Popovic", and finally, in 2010, it changed its name to "Milanovac Theater", which is also in use. today. Throughout history, the theater has had successful performances at various festivals, such as the Festival of Amateur Theaters of Serbia in Kula and the Festival of Amateur Theaters of SFR Yugoslavia in Trebinje.

Milanovac Theater today
In the last ten years, the theater has performed thirteen premieres, including works by Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, Branislav Nusic, Moliere and other important creators.
