Museum of Science and Technology - the most important information

The Museum of Science and Technology is a national cultural institution whose goal is to protect the scientific and technical heritage on the territory of Serbia. The main building is located in Dorcol, and there are permanent exhibitions at two other locations.

History of the Museum of Science and Technology
The museum was founded in 1989, and since 1995 it has been an officially competent institution that takes care of technical cultural goods within the Republic of Serbia. Since 2005, the Museum has been located in the building of the old thermal power plant, and the project for the reconstruction and extension of that building was presented in 2007. The first exhibition was shown on October 10, 1990 and was called Man and Stone.

Exhibition of the Museum of Science and Technology
The museum has five permanent exhibits, which are:
  • Man and technique - this exhibition is located in the Gallery "Aleksandar Despic" and consists of over 400 items. It shows technological development and its impact on people's lives.
  • Toy Gallery - this exhibition is located on the ground floor of the Museum and the youngest will surely enjoy it because they can see objects grouped into two parts - a children's museum and a toy museum.
  • Science playroom - or Science Center. It is located on the ground floor of the Museum building and promotes learning through discovery, participation, experimentation and direct contact with scientific challenges.
  • Medicine in Serbia through the centuries - unlike the previous ones, this exhibition is located at 19 George Washington Street, in the building of the Belgrade hospital from the 19th century. Within this setting, one can see, among other things, old surgical instruments and how they differ from today's ones.
  • Museum of Spa Treatment - this exhibition is located in Vrnjacka Banja and contains more than 180 exhibits, photographs, documents and postcards dedicated to the largest spa in Serbia. You can read more about Vrnjacka Banja on our website: Bookaweb - Vrnjacka Banja.
In addition to these exhibitions in the Museum, you can also see occasional exhibits, which you can find out about on their website - Exhibitions of the Museum of Science and Technology.
