Dubrava Monastery - the most important information

Dubrava Monastery is located in Zlatibor and is located above the canyon of the river Uvac. It was a convent of the monastery Pribojska Banja, and it is believed that it was built in the 13th century and belongs to the monasteries whose history is unusual and still for the most part a mystery. Today this nunnery also includes a guest house for all the curious visitors. 

History of the Dubrava monastery
There are no exact data on when this monastery was built, it is related to the 13th century, and it is believed that it was destroyed in the 17th century, more precisely in 1853, where it is mentioned in some writings. It was looted and burned to the ground by the Turks. Later, vines grew from the ruins. Monk Danilo, 3 centuries later, was the initiator of the rebuilding of this monastery. In 2004, the remains of a temple were found and 260 Venetian ducats.

What must you see in the Dubrava monastery?
A new church dedicated to Saint Panteleimon was built on the site of the old church. Covered with a shingled roof, small in size, of hewn stone and mortar. In addition to the newly built church, you can see another church built, dedicated to St. Basil of Ostrog. You will recognize it by the gabled tin roof and the added narthex on the west side. Monastery lodgings were also built to accommodate the sisterhood, which is today a nunnery. Within the monastery complex, there are also:

  • hermitage of Saint Sava
How to get to the Dubrava monastery?
On the southern slopes of Zlatibor, in the village of Dobroselica, there is this monastery, to which a macadam road has been dug, so you can get there by your own transport. It is 30 kilometers away from Kraljevi vode, the road is paved, and passes by the villages of Ribnica and Stubla.
