Rajac - the most important information
Rajac is the name of the mountain landscape, part of the mountain Suvobor, which is located on the territory of the municipality of Ljig. Although in some descriptions Rajac is defined as a separate mountain, it is true that it does not have all the elements of the mountain, such as passes and gorges, so in geographical terms it is only a landscape, whose highest peak is Rajac - one of the peaks of Suvobor. The altitude of Rajac ranges from 600 to 850 meters.
Rajac - the importance of the mountain landscape
There are several caves and pits on the territory of Rajac, among which the most important is Rajac Cave. The total length of the canal of this cave is 286 meters. Forests of beech, oak, birch and ash predominate in this area, while at higher altitudes you can also see conifers. The mountainous region of Rajac can also boast of the diversity of the animal world, since it is a habitat of various species such as: pheasants, roe deer, foxes, wild boars, rabbits and turtledoves. However, the historical significance of this area and its tourist potential stand out. In the following text, we have singled out the most important tourist attractions for you.
- Monument on Rajac - In 1970, the Association "1300 Corporals" erected this monument in honor of the brave warriors and members of 1300 Corporals, who participated in the Battle of Kolubara, played in large part in this area.
- Mountain lodge "Dushko Jovanovic" - is open all year round and is one of the largest and most equipped mountaineering facilities in Serbia.
- Manifestation Mowing on Rajac - this event is traditionally held in July, the first week after St. Peter's Day and symbolically represents a mob and the solemn end of mowing mountain meadows.
- Other events - in addition to the most popular Mowing, the following events are organized on Rajac: Golden Rajac Fox, Uncle Dushko Jovanović Memorial and Clean Mountains Day on Rajac.
How to get to the mountain area Rajac?
- From Belgrade you can reach this area in an hour and a half by car (highway A2).
- If you are starting from Novi Sad, it will take you about 2 hours and 10 minutes to reach this place (highway A1 / E75 and highway A2).
Additional information
Pupil and student excursions are often organized to the mountainous area of Rajac. Rajac is also suitable for paragliding, since it has favorable air currents for doing this sport. The space provided for the paraglider takeoff is arranged and equipped, so you don't have to worry about anything. The airfield is grassy, wide and with a small slope, suitable for beginners. The start is at 850 meters above sea level, while the landing is at 600 meters.
