History Museum of Serbia - the most important information
The History Museum of Serbia is an institution in which, among other things, material evidence of the history of Serbia is kept and studied and made available to the public.
History of the History Museum of Serbia
There were several stages in the establishment of the Museum:
- In 1950, the Decree on the establishment of the History Museum of the People's Republic of Serbia was passed, but unfortunately it was not realized.
- In 1954, an exhibition was made dedicated to the First Serbian Uprising, on the 150th anniversary of its rise. This exhibition was then transferred to the residence of knez Milos Obrenovic in Topcider, and the Museum of the First Serbian Uprising was formed.
- On February 20, 1963, the History Museum of Serbia was founded by a decree of the Executive Council of the National Assembly of the People's Republic of Serbia. The Museum of the First Serbian Uprising was annexed to him, and the residence of knez Milos was for a long time the only exhibition space of the Museum.
Over the years, the Museum has expanded and today there are more than 35 thousand items distributed in 23 collections and 4 collections.
